Kelly Symes and Emma Francis from Festival House are back by popular demand following their session on October 28, 2017.

Summer music festivals are some of the best gigs out there for independent artists. Now that you have secured your spot, try and make the most of your experience. In this session, you will learn about everything from the basics of a show advance and the importance of self-promotion, to the opportunities for networking effectively and the potential for future bookings.

This session is geared toward artists who will be performing at upcoming music festivals and want to optimize their experience.

KELLY SYMES has been working in the live music business in one way or another for over a decade. Growing up at the Black Sheep Inn in Wakefield, Quebec, Kelly developed an affinity for live music early on. After finishing a degree in Communications at Carleton University in 2012, she joined on with Ottawa Bluesfest organization and has worked as the local program coordinator for Bluesfest and CityFolk ever since. In addition, Kelly oversees the organization's newest festival, the Ontario Festival of Small Halls, taking place each September across Eastern Ontario.

EMMA FRANCIS is part of the RBC Bluesfest and CityFolk programming team. She assists with the coordination of local programming at both events and co-manages the operations of CityFolk's local outreach program, Marvest. Emma also facilitates annual focus group sessions - which aim to encourage the input and participation of youth at both festivals, and writes for the festival's grant writing team.

This event is free.
