Coming Up @ OMIC (week of January 20)

We kick off this week with our January Music Monday. This month we’re talking imposter syndrome! What’s imposter syndrome?

Have you ever felt like you must have been handed an opportunity by mistake, that you don’t deserve it and that at some point (probably in front of everyone you know and respect) someone is going to come and take it back? That’s imposter syndrome in a nutshell.

Want to learn more? Join us at our new space (w/ Youth Ottawa at 99 Fifth Ave, Unit 113) at 6pm. On deckl : Alka Sharma (Folk Music Ontario) as moderator, Matias Muñoz (Bad Form / Ottawa Showbox), and Kelsey Hayes (who will also be performing). Let us know you’re coming here.

There’s still a chance to get in on the best deal around to take in MEGAPHONO. OMIC members can purchase a conference-only OMICxMEGA Pass for the ridiculously low price of $20 here. Want to add some dancing or head bobbing to your learning? You can upgrade to a MEGA Pass for an additional $50. Need more info? Shoot the team an email at info[at]ottawamic.com.

If you’re looking to showcase at the 3rd annual Music Maker Fair on February 9th there are still a few tables available (we recommend you register quickly). Get your product or service in front of more than 200 musicians and music industry professionals. As a special offer for OMIC  members, we’ve decided to extend the 25% member discount on table registration, making one of the sweetest exhibition opportunities in town even sweeter. More information is available here and you can register here.

This week we’re launching into our first concerted round of sector forums, a follow-up from the consultation process for the Ottawa Music Strategy with venues, bookers & promoters, media, country music, hip-hop, and music programming on the menu over at City Hall on January 24 and 25. These meetings are an important part of making sure that Strategy implementation stays in tune with community needs. If you’re not participating in these forums, keep an eye out for the next Town Hall event coming late March.

Also coming up fast is the 3rd annual Ottawa Unison Rocks Charity Bonspiel benefitting the extremely important Unison Benevolent Fund on 23 February starting at 6pm. Team registration (and sponsorship) is open now and spots are limited so don’t wait to let us know you’re interested. New this year you’ll also be able to receive a charitable tax receipt.

Have questions about sync? Our friends at Willow Sound Records are hosting LA-based composer and music supervisor at their studios in Russell next weekend and there’s still a few spots available in their ‘All Things Sync’ full-day workshop next weekend.
