House of PainT Festival and conference takes over the 613 this weekend!

House of PainT, the longest-running and largest annual hip-hop event in Ottawa, is taking place this week, offering not only a stacked programme of Canadian hip-hop, dance, and street art but also a day-long knowledge conference programmed by none other than King Kimbit - From Emerging to Export alumna, fearless leader of Cap City Cyphers and pillar of the local music community. 

The Knowledge Conference takes place on Sunday, August 25 at SAW Gallery from 12:00 - 19:00 (or noon til 7pm) and features : talks by DJ Memetic of TIMEKODE, Half Size Giants, and Just Jamaal, DJ Grumps, MONK.E, Afua; a resource fair; workshops and more!

Pour la première fois, HOP comportera une discussion en français!  Wise Antangana va modérer la discussion <<RAYONNER>> cibler sur les identités intersectionnelles. La discussion va mettre en vedette Hasima Kamanzi de Full Femme, LeFLOFranco, Kimya et le R Premier.

OMIC will have a strong presence at the event. Our newest team member Laura will be at the resource fair from 14:00 - 17:00 and is happy to answer any questions you might have about membership and upcoming programs. Martyna and Nik will be giving a workshop on how to release and promote a single, so if you’ve ever wondered how to get your music on Spotify, what it means to give someone an ‘exclusive premiere’ or whether you have to release the song and the video at the same time this is the workshop for you. Stick around after the workshop for a lightning talk from Nik who’ll be talking about how the lessons she learned through boxing have translated to her leadership style outside the ring.
