A collaboration between the Sparks Street BIA and the Ottawa Music Industry Coalition (OMIC) is bringing local music to The Shed on Sparks St all summer long! The lunchtime concert series, Songs from the Shed, will take place every Tuesday and Thursday from 12pm-1:30pm. Music lovers from the Ottawa region are invited to come enjoy lunch outdoors with a variety of captivating singer-songwriters in solo or duo formations. The project will be run by Ottawa’s own Jessy Lindsay, bilingual singer-songwriter and program coordinator.

La Coalition de l’industrie de la musique d’Ottawa (CIMO) et la ZAC de la rue Sparks collaborent pour faire rayonner la musique locale dans la cabane musicale (The Shed) cet été. La série de dîners musicaux Songs from the Shed aura lieu chaque mardi et jeudi de 12h à 13h30. La communauté d’Ottawa est invitée à dîner sur la rue Sparks avec les artistes solos et les duos. L’auteure-compositrice-interprète et administratrice artistique ottavienne, Jessy Lindsay, fera la coordination du programme.

Nevaeh Dyson

Nevaeh Dyson is a storytelling singer-songwriter based in BC. With musical inspiration from artists such as Jewel, The Barenaked Ladies, and The Lumineers, all of her shows involve interacting with and including the audience. She is so excited to be playing The Shed during her Canadian tour this Fall!

Backseat dragon

Backseat Dragon is Ottawa's (self proclaimed) yuckiest three piece band. Evolving from an acoustic-solo project, they have been dabbling in the Indie-Emo sound, and just released their first studio recorded album "Kick Rocks" August 18th, 2023. You can catch the band playing shows across Ontario, Quebec, or any town that has a good diner breakfast.

Salem mars

With all the atmospheric nostalgia of retro-wave and the melancholic melodies of electro-pop, alternative artist Salem Mars creates a soundscape that lingers in the past and gazes far into the future. Inspired by her surroundings and her unique perspective on the world, Salem Mars has been writing songs for as long as she can remember, drawing on her experiences and crafting them into something memorable and tangible.

Ottawa multi-instrumentalist and creator hans!’ music is about tapping into a conversation about free emotional expression through art and innovation. Jess Wedden

Jess Wedden is a fiddler, stepdancer, singer and songwriter who has earned two Canadian Folk Music Award nominations and was a semifinalist in the 2018 Canadian Songwriting Competition. She has spent the last year touring with multiple bands, including "one of Canada's most revered folk poets and singers”, David Francey.

Jessica pearson & the east wind

Like the yellow morning sun inviting fields of sunflowers to turn toward her, Jessica Pearson naturally draws her listeners in. Her love for storytelling, drawing on folk, outlaw country, and Celtic traditions, is evident in her songwriting. Her long-awaited debut album On The Line was released on January 21, 2022 through Willow Sound Records, to a sold out crowd.

umberlune

With nuanced guitar and stirring vocals, the stories umberlune sings are vivid, lyrical vignettes that go deep and then stick around for a while. At times dark or melancholy, often whimsical, and always honest, these songs are undeniably relatable. You'll catch yourself singing them days later!

Kaspien

Kaspien is the indie/art rock pseudonym of Ottawa-born artist Karim Rostom. Pairing striking lyrics with dreamy melodies, Kaspien’s compositions are brutally earnest. His first EP, DIVER, explores themes of ocean conservation through a dark fable. Kaspien’s music comes to life on stage, from showcasing at Jet Black in November 2022 to throwing a music/fashion show in August 2023. Kaspien’s next single, CINDER, releases October 13th, 2023.

Ink Sticks & Stones est le sobriquet de la compositrice-artiste canadienne Ai Rei Dooh-Tousignant. À travers ses origines mixtes, elle explore différentes méthodes pour retranscrire ses cultures. Son univers musical est néoclassique et chamber pop avec des teintes de musique traditionnelle chinoise.

Orchidae

Orchidae est le projet de pop expérimentale de Yolande Laroche, une artiste canadienne franco-taiwanaise basée à Gatineau, Québec. Des mélodies douces et hypnotiques se mêlent à des arrangements minimaux mais significatifs et à une orchestration parfois psychédélique. La musique reflète son identité hybride et les thèmes de l'aliénation. Yolande est également membre du groupe d'art rock Pony Girl et du duo d'art sonore KAY-fayb.

TRILLE D’OR

Reney Ray

Née à Kapuskasing, en Ontario, et élevée dans un petit village appelé Val-Rita, Reney Ray nous arrive, sans balises ni lois, tel le baume brut que l’on n’attendait plus. Multi-instrumentiste et auteure-compositrice-interprète à la plume aussi décomplexée que sensible, l’artiste livre sa pop-folk infusée de country avec une sincérité qui tantôt berce, tantôt cogne durement, mais qui à tout coup désarme. Dans une recherche de vérité et d’équilibre, elle ne fait qu’un avec ses chansons et les puissantes émotions qui s’en dégagent. Quand le besoin de mettre son cœur sur la table devient plus immense que la peur de se lancer, difficile de se tromper.

Shawn Jobin

Shawn Jobin est un artiste majeur de la musique franco-canadienne. Il a passé près de 15 ans dans l’Ouest à développer la culture Hip hop franco. Outre sa carrière de rappeur, la figure de proue de la musique urbaine de l’Ouest franco-canadien est aussi beatmaker, réalisateur, et DJ. Créateur aux multiples talents et influences, Shawn Jobin est un compositeur atypique capable d’évoluer dans de nombreux styles. Porté par son amour du français Shawn est un fier représentant de la francophonie canadienne au Canada et à l’international.

An exciting newcomer to the Canadian music scene, Ash Ravens is making waves blessed with an instantly recognizable sound and has performed in RBC Bluesfest 2023, Citysounds Festival and Encore Ottawa. With uplifting songs, electrifying guitar chops and his energetic stage presence, Ash Ravens is an all round musical treat.

Siaka Diabaté

Siaka Diabaté est né dans une famille griot à Orodara, Burkina Faso. Il a appris à jouer le Balafon avec son papa. Ses premières scènes étaient les champs et les cérémonies traditionnelles. Aujourd’hui, ce musicien est beaucoup demandé sur les scènes du Burkina Faso. En 2022, il a déménagé à Ottawa/Canada.

Allysann Mei

Allysann Mei brings a very special blend of wit, charm and passion to her songwriting and musical performance. Steph La Rochelle

With breathtaking vocals and heart warming guitar, CCMA-award nominated Steph La Rochelle is making her mark. Steph starred in the National Tour, and appeared in London UK’s productions of Dear Evan Hansen, collaborating with Alex Lacamoire at Nashville’s Bluebird Cafe. An old soul with a powerful gift to share, this songstress will always leave you captivated. Her Factor-funded EP, Wildflower, is available now.

Shawn Tavenier

Shawn Tavenier is an entertainer who is truly at home on the stage.  Based in Ottawa this charismatic singer/songwriter and frontman for roots rock powerhouse Silver Creek is known for his captivating presence, powerful voice, and his ability to hold an audience.  As a songwriter Tavenier is not afraid to embrace his love of the written word and poetry and blend it with unique but still classic melodies. On a festival stage or in a café, you’ll soon come to know why Shawn is a mainstay in the Ottawa music scene and a truly promising Canadian artist.

N’nerjie

N’nerjie is a Black queer Ottawa-based singer-songwriter, originally from Toronto, ON. Her song “life.” was recently featured on Hot 89.9’s Local Love segment. Using her raw, sultry vocals to project the deepest parts of her soul, she is a true storyteller that hopes to take listeners on their own journey of inner-standing and healing.

Robin Kenny

Robin Kenny is an Ottawa born songwriter known for her cuts of psychedelic folk, indie pop, and neo-soul. In spring of 2021 she completed her bachelor's of music at Carleton University studying Jazz vocal performance. Currently, she is working on a debut EP which can be expected in the near future. 

Angelo Leo

Angelo Leo is a multi-instrumentalist and producer out of Ottawa looking to push the boundaries of art by combining genres and styles of music to create their image.

Nayana

With over two million digital streams, Canadian singer/songwriter and country recording artist NAYANA has been making a name for herself in the music scene. After winning ONEArtist Ontario in 2019, Nayana went on to release her debut single Pretty Good To Be Here. Her 6th studio single written in Nashville, TN is set to release by the end of this month.

Sam Stone

Sam Stone, 2023 Ottawa Awards Jazz/Blues Musician of the year nominee, is a singer-songwriter from Ottawa, ON who showcases her soulful, powerhouse vocals and seasoned stage presence during any performance opportunity. Sam released her first single in March 2023 with more to be released later this year.

Akeem Oh

Akeem Oh is a American-Canadian Indie-Pop artist based in Ottawa ON. His singles "Winter Crush" and "School Girl" were released to critical acclaim, with CBC naming the former one of the "Top 3 New Ontario Songs You Need To Hear“. A music video for "Winter Crush" was released on January 8th 2021 to similar acclaim. While shows were the main focus for Oh in 2022, he will be releasing new music in early Summer 2023.

Kristine St-Pierre

Kristine St-Pierre is a singer-songwriter with soul-searching ballads and a rollicking bluesy flair. A ‘chansonnière’ with a traveling heart,’ Kristine has released two bilingual albums (English and French), and a francophone album. She received a Canadian Folk Music Award nomination in 2018, and she is a 5-time nominee for Francophone artist of the year by the Country Music Association of Ontario. Kristine will be releasing a fourth album in the fall of 2023.

Qattuu

Qattuu is an Ontario-based, Inuk throat-singer, originally from Pangnirtung, Nunavut. She is known for her work as a throat singer with multi-JUNO award nominated musical group, Silla and Rise. In addition, Qattuu featured on multiple releases with Joey Nowyuk and Angela Amarualik. As a soloist, Qattuu has experience performing internationally, representing her Inuit culture on world stages.

Her festival appearances include features at Bluesfest, Jazz Fest and a main stage feature at Ottawa's CityFolk Festival.

Skyler Radmore is a Canadian singer/songwriter from Ottawa. With a large variety of influences, he creates an indie rock sound infused with acoustic folk tones. Currently performing as a solo act around the city while working with multiple original projects on new material and recordings.

Jake DeMarsh

Jake DeMarsh is a talented, independent artist and multi-instrumentalist, working the local Ottawa music scene. Coming off his debut single Release of Still Hope last July, he was nominated for newcomer of the year, at the 2023 Capital Music Awards.

Nomad since April 2022, Josh has created a project called Josh & the Dirty Rags who’s combining folk, bluegrass and pop.

Nyx and Lightsmith

Nyx and Lightsmith is an Ottawa-based folk duo consisting of Ethan Mitchell (guitar and vocals) and Maddy O’Regan (violin and harmonies). Together they blend traditional folk music with modern perspectives, writing songs about connection and aiming to showcase that while we all could be doing better, we are not alone.

Steph La Rochelle

Jayla Kirkey

Jayla Kirkey is a full time musician from Ottawa Ontario. Performing solo, in multiple duos and full band. Her main outfit is The VANDURA’s who perform at a lot of corporate events and weddings and at the Heart & Crown locations across the city. She also has an original project with Skyler Radmore where they are busy in the studio recording.

Chris Zimmerman

Chris Zimmerman is a folk rock singer from Ottawa who has toured the country performing in every province in Canada. Chris writes and performs a mix of upbeat catchy originals as well as mellow folk ballads. Look out for new music this fall.

Paula C has been deeply indulged in music from a young age with a love for Reggae, R&B and Neo-Soul that influence her musical style. The most recent single “Queen’s Dream” was inspired by the strength that flows from within and the freedom found when verbal and physical expression is explored.

Aurora Jade

Aurora Jade is a Plains Cree singer, songwriter, visual artist and mural artist. She has been performing professionally since the age of 9 years old.

She has played across Canada in various musical acts, everything from jazz to hardcore punk and metal. She is currently working on her second album "Chaotic Neutral".

Julzzz

Julzzz, a unique Brazilian artist hailing from Peru, captivates audiences with their soulful R&B, jazz-funk infused melodies. Singing effortlessly in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, julzzz draws inspiration from legendary artists like Erykah Badu, Amy Winehouse, and Stevie Wonder. Recently making Canada her new home, julzzz has been a part of over 10 remarkable shows, already leaving their mark on the Ottawa music scene.

Malawian born artist Taapz is a performing singer/ songwriter based in Ottawa Canada. Taapz blends her culture and unique experiences to tell authentic stories through her music. Her artistic talent has allowed her to introduce her audience to her vocal versatility and artistic prowess. Taapz has graced notable stages in the city, including Cranium Festival, Afrofest and Nuit d’Afrique festival in Montreal Quebec.

Good Fortune, the brainchild of Toronto songwriter, musician and animation artist Kelsey McNulty, creates a cinematic collage of sound both new and old. With an affection for the ‘60s French pop of Françoise Hardy and Serge Gainsbourg, to space pop revivalists like Broadcast and Air – McNulty delivers her intimate and sultry vocals stylings (in both English and French) over intentional layers of dreamy synth, surf guitar, and an airtight rhythm section.
